LOST

“I know where I want to go, but don’t know how to get there.”  Bob aimlessly drives around hoping he’ll get to where he wants to go. Maybe he’ll find it, but he probably won’t. Spiritually, he wanders from one church to another, wishing for heaven. Maybe he’ll find it, maybe he won’t. Don’t be Bob.

“I know where I want to god, but I don’t need a map or anyone to show me.” Bob won’t listen to anyone or ask directions, even when he suspects he’s going the wrong way. Spiritually, without humbling himself to accept God’s word, he will be lost (Ps 119:105; Jn 17:17). Don’t be Bob.

“I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m having a good time!” Bob just wants to see the world, have fun, and not be responsible for the consequences of his actions. Spiritually, he doesn’t think about the future and eternity which will spell disaster (Mt 7:23). Don’t be Bob.

“I don’t know where I want to go, but I have several brochures.” Bob isn’t doing anything, but thinking about it, considering who will make the best offer and what is most attractive to him. Spiritually, he will measure spirituality and churches by appeals to his physical desires and how little he has to change, rather than spiritual blessings in Christ (Mt 6:33). Don’t be Bob.

“I’m going where everyone else is going.” Bob follows the crowd. He doesn’t want to appear to be unpopular or strange. Spiritually, God warns that the majority won’t choose to do what is right and trusting others shows lack of faith in Him (Je 10:23; Pr 14:12). Bob doesn’t listen. Don’t be Bob.

“I’m going this way because it is easy.” Bob likes shortcuts. He doesn’t see any value in sacrifice or hard work, and he often doesn’t follow the rules. Spiritually, he wants serving God to be about self and expects it to be the easy, wide path, but God warns it’s not (Mt 7:13). Don’t be Bob.

There are a lot of people who are lost and don’t realize it. There are many who know it, but fail to really look for and trust God and His way. Look to Jesus, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Lk 19:10).      Dd
