Peacemakers
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”
Matthew 5:9
Years ago, there was a movie about a missile that was called “The Peacemaker.” I suppose the idea was peace through strength, but I still thought it sadly contradictory. Let’s be at peace by threatening mutual annihilation!!
God offers real peace – peace so profound that it defies full description (Ph 4:7). It is a spiritual peace that makes us one with our Maker so that we can then be at peace with people, things, and even death. It’s not found anywhere else but in Jesus Christ.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14:27 (John 16:33)
God is a peacemaker. He sent Jesus to be our peace.
“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation” Ep 2:14
This is why when we are peacemakers we will be “called sons of God” (Mt 5:9). There will be the family resemblance with God our peacemaker Father.
Peacemakers make peace with God through forgiveness in Jesus (Ro 5:1)
Peacemakers value God’s peace over the world’s peace (Jn 14:27)
Peacemakers try to live in peace with all men if possible (Ro 12:18)
Peacemakers pursue peace (look for ways to make it happen) (Ro 14:19)
Peacemakers make every effort to live in peace with others (He 12:14)
Peacemakers aspire to live quiet and peaceable lives (1 Th 4;11)
Peacemakers recognize peace as a fruit of the Spirit in their lives (Ga 5:22)
Peacemakers want everyone to experience peace (Ep 2:17)
Peacemakers don’t separate peace from Jesus (Co 3:15)
Peacemakers pray for government officials that we may lead peaceful lives (1 Ti 2:2)
Peacemakers know God’s discipline produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness (He 12:11)
Be a peacemaker with others. Show them that the Spirit of your Peacemaker Father lives in us. dd
“May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you” Jude 1:2
