Learning From Mistakes

Learning From Mistakes

It is amazing how many imperfect, sinful followers of God are told about in the Bible. Doing this makes the Bible a real book, rather than fiction that whitewashes, sanitizes, and idolizes people in an unrealistic and unrelatable way. And it also gives us the opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” 1 Corinthians 10:11

God can, and does, use those who are not perfect. In Christ, He can and will use you no matter what your past was.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Cor 6:9-11

Don’t Learn…

This is NOT suggesting that we can remain in sin and still please God or somehow get away with sin!

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” Romans 6:1-2

Each one of us is made in the image of God and it is up to us to choose whether we will value this by glorifying God by following Jesus or deny Him by living in sin.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
Don’t Learn…

“I’m only human” and I have to sin. We can learn from the mistakes and sins of others and not imitate them!

“A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.” Proverbs 22:3
